Literacy is taught every day as a literacy hour. All the teachers at St.John’s work to create exciting, informative lessons, where the children focus on developing reading, writing and spelling skills. The children learn through speaking, listening and drama, through visits and activity days in school and using film and books.
In Key Stage 1 a major focus is on phonics - looking at how letters sound. This is the first step to both reading and writing. Through this we learn to enjoy books and write our own idea and stories.
As a school literacy is very important and we are focusing on becoming literate. It is an area we are really working hard on and feel we are always developing and improving.
