Stibbington

The children arrived safe and sound yesterday. They were all so excited, and couldn't wait to see the centre and get stuck into the acitivites! They went on an Eco-Trail yesterday and learnt all about how to help the environment. Next they went on a Treasure Hunt (apparantly Mr Nay and Mr Campion got lost!). They've got a fun filled couple of days infront of them and will be keeping us posted on their acitvties.

Rock Band!

In year 6 we have been looking developing our own Rock Band! It's been great for the children to create their own bands for them to be writing their own lyrics and composing their own music.

Here is a example of a child's homework based on designing a persuasive advert for their band.

BURN Advert

The person who created the advert had this to say:

Burn will rock your socks off with it's infectious beats and it's hard rock guitar.

so if your ears want to hear something phenomenal watch this advert.

Snowdon.....it begins....

What a busy day it's been for all of us! We have been split into 6 groups and we have all been doing some fantastic things today. Two groups went Gorge Walking, which we all got really wet doing! It was great fun, even the adults got wet on the 'slide'. Two other groups have even done some map work and bouldering which was great, even if Mr Maddox nearly got stuck! The last two groups have been doing sea level traversing which was brilliant because of being so close to the sea! To top the day off we all went on a night walk to see the Llanberis Valley at night, and simply put 'it was awesome' (Year 5 WIneyates pupil).

After speaking to the children throughout the day they have all really enjoyed the two schools being together, giving the children a chance to form new friendships and develop stronger ties between the two schools. It's been great to see the chilren develop in the short time that we have been here!

Stay tuned to see photos and more tales of our adventures this week.

A view of the bay that some of use went to see today!

Science Week

Last week at school we enjoyed a very exciting Science week. The whole school took part in loads of acitvities all week and the children even designed their own science investigations! The photos below are from a selection of the experiences that we had throughout the week.

We enjoyed the Planetarium and learned lots about the solar system as well being treated to some thrilling experiments from a science teacher from Orton Longueville School. The Zoolab treated us to some fascinating animals and creepy crawlies to round the week off nicely!

Year 6 Trip to RAF Scampton

Miss Carson's class spent a day at RAF Scampton with the Red Arrows.  This was an amazing opportunity and they all had a fantastic time.  This is what Rebecca Uff wrote about the trip:

WOW! What a day!  The trip to RAF Scampton was phenomenal.  It wasn't what I expected at all.  When we arrived, the first thing I spotted was the super big aeroplanes.

After we put our things away in the RAF classroom, the first thing we did was the fly off!  It was great, great because everyone wanted and had a chance to win.  The fly off was a big competition: quite a few planes went high and some went far, so we didn't have a clue who would win.  In the end the winners were revealed.  I was a little sad I didn't win, but it didn't matter a lot.

After we finished the competition, we watched some pilots practise a performance.  It was fabulous, fabulous because they did loads of tricks, which included flips and twirls.  At one point it looked like they were going to crash!

Overall, it was such a fabulous day.  It was a fabulous once in a lifetime chance.  I want to go again!

Come Dine With Me

For the second year running our Learning Mentors organised a 'Come Dine With Me' event in the school.  With the help of the Learning Mentors the children cooked three course meals in small groups and invited their parents to come and enjoy the results.  This year the event took place in our new Community Building.  All the parents were very impressed with the standards of both food and presentation.  They filled in scorecards giving points for menu choice, hosting skills, table manners etc.  One of the parents wrote: 'I was very impressed with every aspect of the meal.  All the children were very well mannered and I have to say the food was magnificent.'

Miss Sandall's Book is Here!

Our very own Miss Sandall has had her first book published!  Birdsong is a colourful tale of noisy birds landing on the branch of a big tree.  One flashy bird wants to rule the roost  -  until something small changes his tune.

There is a copy of the book in the Key Stage 1 library together with a display including an interview with Miss Sandall and some big birds created by the children in our Art Club.  Do take a look next time you’re there.

Miss Sandall has both written and illustrated the book.  She is currently working on two more children's books which should be in the shops next year.
