Dear Parents

On behalf of the staff and governors I have great pleasure in introducing you to Saint John's Church School. We hope that your child’s time here will be both happy and successful.

Saint John's School is a Church of England Voluntary Aided School.  We uphold Christian beliefs and have strong links with our local church, Christ Church.  These Christian beliefs can be seen in our policies and in the daily life of our school as we celebrate collective worship.

As a school we are committed to developing a partnership between home and school.  It is by working together that we can encourage your child to develop a lively attitude to learning, an enquiring mind and the ability to question and respond.

The creation of a happy learning environment remains one of our main goals and this is combined with effective teaching.  We will enable your child to perform to the best of his/her ability so that they leave school equipped for life and the challenges it brings.

This website will give you all the information you need about how our school runs and who to speak to if you need more information or have a concern. Should you   require any further information please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Welcome to our Church

There have always been very close relations between the local church and school. This is seen today in a number of ways:

  • several church members serve as School Governors
  • the School holds special services at the church four times a year (Harvest, Christmas, Easter and the Leavers’ service in July)
  • the Minister leads collective Worship in school once a week
  • many children visit the church as part of their RE
Art

Apart from these formal links some children from the School also attend one of the groups for children and young people at the church. Details of these can be found by phoning the Minister on 394185.

Christ Church began in St John’s Church School. The original design of the School included worship space and there was a chapel in what is now the Conference Room. This continued for 20 years with chairs being put out every Sunday morning for the service. Actually there were two churches in the early years, St John’s (Church of England) and St Barnabas (United Reformed Church). When these two churches joined together to become Christ Church there was the vision and support from the denominations to build a separate church and community centre. This was available to be used all day, every day, and many activities take place there for people from the local community. At this time the Methodist Church joined the partnership so that Christ Church is a now a Local Ecumenical Partnership between three denominations.
Services are held every Sunday at 10am and always include activities for children. These either take place in age groups or everyone joins together for All Age Worship. Why not join us one Sunday?
