Year 4 will embark on a culinary journey of campfire cooking. As keen foodies they will become masters of the grill! They will understand the basics of food hygiene and alongside their cooking experiences they will grow herbs and salad vegetables in the school garden to use with their dishes. Their cooking experiences will involve cooking in foil, directly on the grill and using other appropriate items such as a storm kettle, to facilitate a variety of cooking methods. They will be encouraged to be creative with their food choices and to step out of their comfort zone and try new things. After a 14 week journey of recipe writing and cooking they will produce a Campfire Cookbook which they will be able to take home and share with their families and the wider school community. In the cookbook they will share times of adversity with a ‘Hints and Tips’ section.
