High-reaching Hawks

Writer's picture: Simon HollingsworthSimon Hollingsworth

The first week of Year 6 for The Hawks was a great one!  We were introduced to our first topic, 'What Makes Us Who We Are?' and thought, specifically, about how evolution has changed how we look by creating our own family trees. The class were able to investigate different artefacts from British History and an ancient civilisation - The Maya - by making comparisons. It was clear that we have a keen group of historians in the making.  The Hawks ended the week on a high by designing and building our own catapults - emulating the Angry Birds - by launching a small marshmallow as far as we could using just lolly sticks, elastic bands and glue!! A really positive start to the week where we are also ensuring that our three 'School Rules' to be respectful, responsible and ready to learn are always shown across the school.
