Welcome to our nursery, which is set within and is a part of
St John's Church School.

We cater for children from aged 2, before they join their primary school setting.

Nursery Admissions Documents_edited.jpg

Our nursery consists of two rooms that work together as one cohesive unit. Children register in their own rooms each day, giving them a familiar and comfortable start to their morning. There is one teacher across the nursery, supported by dedicated and skilled practitioners. Together, they create a welcoming environment where every child can explore, learn, and grow with confidence.

Caterpillars (Age 2) Ratios 1:5

We understand that for many children, this may be their first experience of being cared for away from home. That’s why we aim to create a safe and secure environment that mirrors the comfort of home, while gently encouraging independence and confidence. The children enjoy their own indoor and outdoor spaces, thoughtfully designed to support their individual needs.

Placing a strong emphasis on nurture and building positive relationships, our staff provide a sensitive, caring approach to support our youngest learners.

Butterflies (Age 3+) Ratios 1:8

Whether your child starts with us here, or is continuing their journey from Caterpillars class, they will be able to enjoy their own inside and outside area. We offer a wide range of opportunities to allow children to exercise their imagination and creativity, alongside our experienced staff.

What does the day look like in our nursery?

Our learning spaces are carefully set up based on the children’s interests and individual needs.  Children can access these areas independently at different times of the day, allowing them to explore and learn at their own pace.

We also come together for shared learning sessions throughout the day. These include listening games to support early phonics (through the Read Write Inc Phonics programme), daily number and maths activities, and sessions linked to our “big question,” which integrate a focus on Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Alongside these structured sessions, children are encouraged to follow their own ideas and engage in child-initiated learning, supporting creativity, curiosity, and confidence.

Children will also enjoy short, focused PE sessions led by specialist teachers from the school, helping to inspire a love of sport and physical activities.

CURRICULUM

Nursery Curriculum

Within the EYFS curriculum there are seven areas of learning and development, all of which are important and interlinked. The three prime areas reflect the key skills all children need to develop and learn effectively. The three prime areas are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, and Physical Development. There are then four specific areas of learning through which the prime areas are consolidated and applied; literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
