Religious Education

Intent:
Implementation:
At the Spirit Federation, our Religious Education (RE) curriculum is rooted in our vision of "Living for life in all its fullness," aligned with our mission to change lives, achieve excellence and foster whole-person growth. At St John's, this is underpinned by our Christian values of courage, compassion, respect and hope. We believe that RE plays a central role in spiritual and moral development, enabling children to flourish as individuals and live with faith and purpose.

RE is framed around three guiding questions:

-
What makes us who we are?
-
How does adversity inspire courage and creative possibilities?
-
In an ever-changing world, how can the choices we make have an impact?
These questions help pupils engage deeply with Christian theology and other world faiths, building wisdom, empathy and understanding.
RE at St John's is immersive, reflective and values-led. Younger pupils learn through storytelling, prayer and sensory experiences. As children mature, they explore religious and philosophical questions through discussion, scripture and critical enquiry. As a Church of England school, we follow the local Diocese syllabus and incorporate Christian festivals, worship and church links throughout the year. Teaching encourages spiritual growth alongside academic rigour and intercultural learning.

Impact
The RE curriculum at Spirit Federation is designed to have a holistic and transformative impact on our students. By the end of their RE education, pupils will have developed a strong understanding of Christian belief and the beliefs of other major world religions. They will demonstrate empathy, respect and moral awareness, grounded in the values of our school community. Pupils will be well prepared to engage thoughtfully with a diverse world and live out the values of faith, service and love.
